Thursday – Half Workday and Dr. Consult

I woke up today at 5:45am and, like most other days, was very stiff and in a lot of pain and discomfort. Mandi typically wakes me up to feed me the mandatory seven pill drug cocktail that will eventually animate me for the day. After that I laid back down to let the medicine do its work, which generally takes an hour. Today I fell back asleep for two. This is how most of my mornings go, which makes it hard to commit to any specific thing on any given morning. An 8am doctor’s appointment has become an event that requires several days of preparation.

After finally raising myself out of bed and getting ready, I dressed for the office. While I could have opted for something comfortable, something drove me to wear the shirt and tie and show up looking my best. After all my coworkers may not see me for a while, why not leave on a high note? The main reason for visiting the office was to inform my management team that I will be available on a very limited basis for the next couple months, and to also figure out some sort of game plan with my bosses. I was touched, but also saddened to see how hard my manager team took the news. I have been friends with many of them for over a decade and I know they felt it. My company has been extremely supportive and accommodating, and today was no exception.

My pain today has been visiting me earlier than scheduled, which may just be due to the increased morning activity. I need to watch out for that, as too much early day activity always seems to cost me in the evening.

Mandi and I are currently en route to my first meeting with the cardiothoracic surgeon that has been handling my case. We are meeting at 1:30pm to discuss plans going forward and there are a lot of questions to get answered. Tomorrow morning at 9am I have a follow up meeting with Dr. Lameé (my pulmonologist) to review the results of my Pulmonary Functionality Test. All in all, things are moving forward fairly quickly and many of the test results we have received have been favorable. Praying for continued luck with this trend. Will update again soon. 🙂
